Michael is a classically trained guitarist, singer, songwriter and composer. He is a seasoned session musician, who has played clubs, concert halls, festival stages and in orchestra pits on four continents.
His repertoire is as expansive as it is eclectic, ranging from purist bluegrass and jazz, to surf, soul, blues and rockabilly. He describes his music as “What would happen if Antônio Jobim, The Funk Brothers and Quentin Tarantino had a band.”
Michael’s less-is-more compositions and arrangements are anything but simplistic. His unique guitar and vocal stylings play off of and interplay with each other to “make room for every note to dance,” culminating in a sound that is truly a whole greater than the sum of its parts.
“It’s is all about the rhythm. If feet aren’t moving and heads aren’t nodding, what’s the point?”
Indeed.
When not performing or in the recording studio, Michael kicks back with his wife-muse and their cat at their home in the Virginia mountains.
